Blue Heron Data provides web-based tools and promotes software applications for niche communities. Our current services include:
- Ham Radio Contact Mapper: A web-based tool that allows amateur radio operators to upload ADIF log files and visualize their contacts on an interactive map.
- Home Inventory Management System: A native Apple application for cataloging household items (promoted on this website, distributed through the Apple App Store).
Use of the Ham Radio Contact Mapper
Acceptable Use
The Contact Mapper is intended for amateur radio operators to map contacts from individual activations, contests, and similar events. You agree to:
- Upload only your own ADIF log files or files you have authorization to use
- Provide accurate callsign and grid square information
- Use the tool for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes
Upload Limits
Uploads are limited to a maximum number of QSOs per file as indicated on the upload form. This tool is designed for individual activation and contest logs, not lifetime logging databases.
Data Processing
When you upload an ADIF file, callsigns from your log are sent to third-party services (QRZ.com and HamQTH.com) for location lookups. By using the Contact Mapper, you acknowledge and consent to this data processing. Your uploaded data is processed in memory during your session and is not stored on our servers after processing is complete.
Exported Files
PNG images exported from the Contact Mapper include a copyright notice for Blue Heron Data. You are free to share exported maps on social media, in blog posts, and in personal communications. You may not remove, alter, or obscure the copyright attribution. You may not sell exported maps or use them in commercial products without written permission.
Intellectual Property
All content, design, code, and branding on this website are the property of Blue Heron Data and are protected by copyright. This includes but is not limited to the website design, plugin code, logos, and page content.
The Ham Radio Contact Mapper plugin, including all source code and assets, is the proprietary property of Blue Heron Data. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from any part of the plugin or website without written permission.
Third-Party Services
Our website relies on third-party services to function. These include:
- QRZ.com and HamQTH.com for callsign location lookups
- OpenStreetMap, CartoDB, and OpenTopoMap for map tiles
- Hostinger for website hosting
- MailerLite for email notifications (if you subscribe)
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of these third-party services. Your use of our tools that depend on these services is subject to their respective terms and policies.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Blue Heron Data website and all tools are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that:
- The services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
- The results obtained from using our tools will be accurate or reliable
- Location data derived from callsign lookups will be precise or correct
- Exported maps will be suitable for any particular purpose
Amateur radio contact locations are approximations based on available data from callsign databases and Maidenhead grid squares. They should not be relied upon for precision navigation or official record-keeping.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Blue Heron Data shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of our website or tools. This includes but is not limited to damages for loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption.
Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of our services shall not exceed the amount you paid to us for use of the services (which, for free services, is zero).
Indemnification
